Line Engraved Essays and Proofs 1865 "Royal" Reprint 1d. in carmine-rose, TA, a marginal example from the lower left corner of the sheet showing the plate number "66" and part of the margins inscription, "price 1d. Per La...", other margins large to very large, part original gum; some adherences on reverse and light gum wrinkling. A rare and important plate number piece. S.G. Spec. DP35a Estimate £ 3,000-4,000 Plate proof impressions were taken from 1d. plate 66 after it had been withdrawn from service. Prints were made on large crown watermark paper. There is an adherence in the very corner which was probably caused when the complete sheet was originally mounted for display.
