Naval General Service 1793-1840, two clasps, Anse La Barque 18 Decr. 1809, Guadaloupe (John Sharp.), good very fine Estimate £ 3,000-3,500 John Sharp served as Carpenter´s Mate in H.M.S. Blonde for the storming of enemy batteries at Barque island, Guadaloupe, and the chase and capture of the French 40-gun frigates Loire and Seine when working in concert with H.M.S. Sceptre between The Saints and Guadaloupe, 18.12.1840; Sharp served as Carpenter´s Mate in the same vessel for the combined naval and military operations commanded by Vice Admiral the Honourable Sir Alexander Cochrane and Lieutenant General Sir George Beckwith which culminated in the capture of the French-held Island of Guadaloupe, January-February 1810; two other men of this name appear on the Admiralty Claimants List (see Lots 92 and 93) Approximately 40 ´Anse la Barque 18 Decr. 1809´ clasps issued.
