Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, St. Vincent (Dyer Bond Midshipman.), very fine Estimate £ 4,500-5,500 Dyer Bond served as Midshipman in H.M.S. Barfleur at the defeat of the Spanish fleet off Cape St. Vincent, 14.2.1797. Six Large Naval Gold Medals and fourteen Small Naval Gold Medals were awarded for this action. Commander Dyer Bond, R.N. joined the Royal Navy, 1795, and was posted for service as Midshipman in H.M.S. Barfleur (Captain J.R. Dacres, flag ship of Vice-Admiral Hon. W. Waldegrave) later the same year; served with the latter for four years in the Mediterranean and Channel, including in the action off Cape St. Vincent; subsequent service included in H.M. Ships Foudroyant, Vanguard, Robust and Castor; after service in H.M.S. Hussar (Captain W. Brown) he was promoted Lieutenant, April 1802; removed with Captain Brown the following year to H.M.S. Romney for service off the coast of Africa and the West Indies; held an appointment in the Sea-Fencibles at Chatham, 1805-1808; retired Commander 1834.
