The China Fire Insurance Company Limited, fire insurance policy with a sum insured of $6200, dated 1st August 1891 to 1st August 1892, policy number 10847, stamped with a chop of 10 cents for stamp duty, the document featuring Britannia and a Chinese man in Manchu queue against a steam fire engine in the emblem at top. The China Fire Insurance Company Limited was established in 1870, during a time when insurance companies were able to operate independently amid the demise and eventual dissolution of then-powerful merchant companies. Condition is naturally a little mixed in places with typical folding creases necessary for such large documents, but generally fine to very fine
