x New South Wales Early Letters and Handstamps Incoming Mail 1844 (8 Feb.) entire letter from Scotland addressed to "Miss Waugh, Tarragong, Illawarra, by Kiama, N.S. Wales" Wollongong, via London and Sydney, carried by the "Georgetown" on the second outward voyage of the Toulmin Packets, bearing 1841 1d. Pl. 37 strips of three (2, one vertical), pair and singles (4), all neatly cancelled by Maltese Cross, showing manuscript "11" and, on reverse, London, Ship Letter Sydney and "wollongong/n.s. wales" datestamps, the long interesting letter (transcript enclosed) mainly concerns family and church matters; some faults though a rare and remarkable franking. Photo Estimate £ 1,500-2,000 Note: The "Georgetown", under the command of Captain Archibald Bell, sailed from London on 1 March, and from the Downs on 4 March. She arrived at Sydney on 22 June, after a passage of 110 days, via Cape Town for repairs to a pump.
