Murphy. 1/R.Ir:Rif), minor edge bruising, therefore very fine Estimate £ 500-600 D.C.M. London Gazette 21.6.1916 5829 Pte. S. Murphy, late 1st Bn., R. Ir. Rif., ´´For conspicuous gallantry when clearing an enemy trench by bombing. He assisted to hold the trench for over an hour against enemy counter-attacks. Later, hearing of a wounded man lying in the open with the assistance of an officer he brought him into safety.´´ 5829 Private Simon Murphy, D.C.M., served during the Great War with the Royal Irish Rifles on the Western Front, from 7.10.1914.
