Gahagan, 48th Foot; enlisted in the Royal Engineers, November 1877; served in Egypt, August-November 1882; Company Sergeant Major Instructor, June 1889; Sergeant Major Instructor, May 1895; Commissioned as Quartermaster and Honorary Lieutenant, Royal Engineers, 23.4.1902, after 24 years and 158 days in the ranks; Captain, 20.4.1912; Major, 24.4.1917.
