x Indian Mutiny 1857-58, no clasp (J, Bennett, A,B, In. Nl. Bde. H.M.P.V. Calcutta), nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 350-400 John Bennett born Dublin, Ireland; served with No. 4 Brigade which reached Dacca, August 1857. The men forming this detachment came from the Indian Navy ships Punjaub and Clive. They were involved in hard fighting and the defeat of rebellious sepoys on 22 November 1857, when Midshipman Arthur Mayo I.N. earned the Victoria Cross. The Brigade remained in being until July 1859, commanded throughout by Lieutenant T.E. Lewis who was twice wounded in this time.
