A Well Documented P.O.W. Group of Three to Captain C.E. Robson, Durham Light Infantry, Taken Prisoner By the Germans in Africa, June 1942 1939-1945 Star; Africa Star; War Medal, nearly extremely fine, mounted court style, together with the following related contemporary documentation and other items &c.: - Three D.L.I. brass buttons, two pieces of cloth insignia, and the recipient´s forage cap, complete with cap badge - Carved wooden crown, believed to have been done by recipient whilst a P.O.W. - A superb illustrated book recording Robson´s war service, compiled by the recipient, including a listing of the P.O.W. camps he was interned in, replete with pencil sketches and watercolours of the camps, conditions and characters; also containing signatures of prisoners, Christmas Menus, camp currency, and group photographs of officers from Robson´s various camps of internment - A small annotated photograph album compiled by recipient with images of Egypt and Tobruk, 1940-41 - A larger album compiled by recipient whilst based in Aleppo, Syria, with further images of Tobruk and the Suez Canal, a mixture of images of the D.L.I. and local scenes and characters, with each photograph annotated on the reverse by Robson - A small book compiled by William Robson, ´A few songs and other bits of poems written by me round about my 70th birthday´, dated August 1940 (lot) Estimate £ 200-250 Captain C.E. Robson was posted to the Durham Light Infantry Training Centre, 1939; commissioned Second Lieutenant 13.4.1940; posted to the Middle East and served with the 9th Battalion and the 1st Battalion, 1940-42; advance Temporary Captain 5.5.1942 and in ´´June 1942, captured Zut El Mrassas by German Lorried Infantry - 1942 and 1943 P.O.W. in Italy and Germany´´ (Illustrated record of service included in lot refers); Robson lists the P.O.W. Camps that he was interned in, ´´Lybia: Timimi Cage - Derna - Barce, from June 15th to 20th incl. 1942; Italy: Lecce - Bari, from June 21st to Aug. 3rd 1942. Chieti, from Aug 4th 1942 to Aug 4th 1943. Bologna from Aug 5th 1943 to 11th Sept. - Retaken by Germans on Italian Capitulation. Germany: Mooseberg, from Sept 15th to 20th 1943. Starsbourg (Fort Bismarck), from Sept 20th to Oct 9th 1943; Weinsburg from Oct 9th´´ (Ibid).
