New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1863-1866 (Pte. W. Biggs R M -H-M-S Curacoa), very fine, scarce Estimate £ 1,300-1,500 Approximately 189 New Zealand medals were awarded to H.M.S. Curacoa, 63 of which are recorded as known in Naval Medals 1793-1856, K. Douglas-Morris; the appearance of Bigg´´s medal now makes it 64. More importantly Biggs´´ medal is now 1 of only 2 known to the Navy with the reverse dated 1863-1866. The other medal with this reverse is given by British Battles and Medals as to Lieutenant Klintberg of the Swedish Navy who was attached to H.M.S. Hazard. Private William Biggs´´ New Zealand Medal was issued 29.7.1873.
