London Gazette 11.8.1917 PO William George Mantell, ON 224261 (Ch) 224261 Chief Petty Officer William George Mantell, D.S.M., born Kensington, London 1886; served in various ships during the Great War including H.M.S. Blenheim in whom he was severely wounded in action during an engagement in the Dardanelles 8.12.1915; Chief Petty Officer Mantell also served in H.M.S. Stork, 1.2.1917-25.2.1919; H.M.S. Stork, was an "Admiralty R. Class" Destroyer built by Hawthorne Leslie it was launched 15.11.1916 and subsequently sold for scrap 7.10.1927 but not before it took part in the operations at Zeebrugge 1918.
