The Scarce Two Clasps Undated Reverse British South Africa Company´s Medal to Trooper C.G. Laurie, British South Africa Company Police British South Africa Company´s Medal 1890-97, undated reverse, two clasps, Mashonaland 1890, Rhodesia 1896 (Tpr. C.G. Laurie, B.S.A.C.P.), minor edge bruising, therefore very fine Estimate £ 800-1,000 Trooper Charles George Laurie, born Scotland, circa 1867; educated at George Watson´´s College, Edinburgh and was initially employed by the Bank of Scotland; moved to the Kimberley, where he found employment with the Standard Bank before joining the British South Africa Company´´s Police as a Trooper, 16.1.1891; he was stationed on one of the Limpopo River drifts at the time of the threatened Boer incursion in July, 1891; discharged at the Tuli Depot, 30.9.1891, before rejoining the Standard Bank at Salisbury; he later entered the Civil Service as Mining Commissioner at Hartley, and was subsequently employed in the Mines and Works Department at Salisbury; retired 1922; he was a foundation member of the Associated Members of the 1890 and 1893 Columns and as a Committee Member played a large part in organising the 40th Anniversary Celebrations in Salisbury, 1930; Laurie was made a Freeman of the City of Salisbury in 1935; he died in June 1937.
