Smart R.War.R.), nearly very fine, with small gold medal, obverse engraved ´Bombay 1911 Rovers Football Tournament´, reverse engraved ´1st R.War.R. F. Smart´, and Mentioned in Despatches Certificate, dated 13.11.1916 (lot) Estimate £ 450-500 M.M. London Gazette 11.11.1916 1115 L./C. F. Smart, R. War. R M.I.D. London Gazette 4.1.1917 No.1115 Lce. Corpl. F. Smart, R. War. R. 1115 Lance-Corporal Frank Smart, M.M., served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment on the Western Front from 22.8.1914; in late 1916 the battalion was heavily engaged on the Somme, including the action at Les Boeufs, 10.9.1916, when they advanced into Antelope trench and fully repulsed an enemy attack, and once again at Les Boeufs a month later when they were involved in fierce hand-to-hand fighting at Boritska Trench.
