The Well Documented Sultan´s Gold Medal For Egypt and M.G.S. Pair to Lieutenant-Colonel G.E. Raitt, Queen´s Royal Regiment Military General Service 1793-1814, four clasps, Egypt, Vimiera, Corunna, Fuentes D´Onor (G.E. Raitt, Capt. 2nd Foot & A.D.C.), with contemporary silver top riband bar; Sultan´s Gold Medal for Egypt 1801, 3rd Class, 43mm, with original integral suspension loop and gold chain suspension, good very fine, with contemporary M.G.S. miniature award, all housed in a damaged leather case with the Raitt Family Coat of Arms and Motto with the following original documentation: - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Lieutenant, Queen´s Royal Regiment, dated 26.1.1797 - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Captain-Lieutenant, Queen´s Royal Regiment, dated 28.2.1800 - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Captain, Queen´s Royal Regiment, dated 14.4.1803 - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Major, Queen´s Royal Regiment, dated 1.1.1812 - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Major, Queen´s Royal Regiment, dated 19.8.1813 - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Deputy Quarter Master General to the Forces at Malta, dated 25.9.1814 - Commission appointing George Edward Raitt as Barrack Master, dated 17.1.1848 - Recipient´s record of service written by himself (lot) Estimate £ 4,500-5,000 Lieutenant-Colonel George Edward Raitt, commissioned Ensign 2nd Foot, 1796; served with the Regiment in Ireland during the Rebellion of 1798, and was present at the Capture of Wexford from the rebels, and at the surrender of the French at Ballinamuck; accompanied the expedition to the Helder, 1799, and was present at the battles of the 19th September, 2nd and 6th October; Captain-Lieutenant 1800; served as Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Hamilton in Egyptian Campaign of 1801, including the siege and capture of Fort Aboukir, battle of the 21st March, siege and capture of Fort St. Julian, affair of Rahmania, and blockade and surrender of Alexandria (Sultan´´s Medal); landed in the Peninsula 21.8.1808, and was present at the battle of Vimiera, and in all the operations of Sir John Moore´´s army of its retreat, and at the battle of Corunna; accompanied the expedition to Walacheren in 1809, and was present at the capture of Flushing; proceeded to Portugal as Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Houstan, 1810; present during the operations of Massena´´s retreat and the battle of Fuentes D´´Onor; served as Deputy Quarter Master General at Malta from 1816 and saw later appointments as Deputy Adjutant General to the Forces in the Mediterranean and as a Barrack Master.
