R.A.F.) b) 1939-1945 Star c) Air Crew Europe Star, with Atlantic Bar d) Defence and War Medals e) General Service 1962-2007, one clasp, Radfan (Flt. Lt. G.L. Donnelly. R.A.F.), light contact marks throughout, very fine, mounted court-style as originally worn (6) Estimate £ 1,800-2,200 D.F.M. London Gazette 14.4.1942 Donnelly, George Lawrence, 618288 Flight Sergeant, No. 76 Sqn. The Recommendation, dated 12.2.1942, states: ´´This N.C.O. has been flying on operations since the beginning of the war and throughout the whole time that he has been in the squadron, his keenness and energy have been a great influence on other members of aircrews and I strongly recommend that his courage and devotion to duty should be recognised by the awarding of the Distinguished Flying Medal. Remarks by Station Commander: I agree with the Squadron Commander´´s remarks. Flight Sergeant Donnelly through his long operational tour has set a fine example of courage and devotion to duty. His character, coupled with his skill and ability have been a very good influence among the Wireless Operator/Air Gunners in the squadron.´´ Flight Lieutenant George Lawrence Donnelly, D.F.M., born 1920; served during the Second World War and flew in approximately 40 operational sorties, including with 76 Squadron, Middleton St. George, County Durham, (Halifax´´s); the squadron were very active during the early months of 1942, including participating in a series of three attacks on the Tirpitz in the Trondheim area, March and April 1942; commissioned Pilot Officer 29.3.1945; Flight Lieutenant 7.6.1951; retired 18.12.1966.
