Chainikov, Who Inspired his Men in Battle by Personally Shooting 12 ´Hitlerite Soldiers´ With a Sub-Machine Gun Whilst His Group Destroyed Approximately 120 of the Enemy and made Prisoner Over 150 During This Operation Russia, Soviet Union, Order of the Patriotic War, First Class, 2nd type breast Badge, with Screwback suspension, 48mm x 43mm, gold, silver, and enamel, reverse officially numbered ´195409´, nearly extremely fine, with copied service papers featuring a photograph of the recipient confirming the numbered award Estimate £ 250-300 The Citation, dated 14.5.1944, states: ´In operations breaking through the defensive line of the enemy at Ak-Monaj Station, Krymskaya ACCP, 14th April, 1944, Comrade Chainikov, heading a group of soldiers, performed bravely and resolutely, inspiring the soldiers to feats by his personal example. In a short but fierce fight, the group headed by Chainikov destroyed up to 120 Hitlerite soldiers and took over 150 Germans and Romanians prisoner. In that fight Comrade Chainikov personally shot 12 Hitlerites with a submachine gun.´ Lieutenant-Colonel Georgy Dmitriyevich Chainikov, born Odessa, Russia, 26.5.1911; Commissioned Lieutenant, 23.6.1941; served on the North Caucasian Front, 24.6.1941-26.4.1944; twice heavily wounded, March 1942 and March 1943; thrice lightly wounded, August 1943, November 1943, and in 1944; Guards Captain, 19.2.1945; Major, 10.6.1945; Lieutenant-Colonel, 13.12.1949; transferred to the Reserve, 20.6.1953. Lieutenant-Colonel Chainikov was also awarded the Order of the Red Star, 5.10.1943; and the Order of Alexander Nevsky, 20.10.1943.
