A 1945 ´Advance To Berlin´ Order of Alexander Nevsky to Lieutenant G.Y. Sasayev, who, Facing an Enemy of Superior Numbers and Equipment on the Banks of the Oder, Took Command and Eliminated the Encircling Force Russia, Soviet Union, Order of Alexander Nevsky, 3rd type breast Badge, with Screwback suspension, 52mm x 50mm, silver, silver-gilt, and enamel, reverse officially numbered ´38465´, nearly extremely fine, with copied service papers confirming the numbered award Estimate £ 250-300 The Citation, dated 9.6.1945, states: ´In action during the enlargement of the bridgehead on the right bank of the Oder, Comrade Sasayev displayed mastery and skill to cause losses to the enemy and win in spite of the enemy´s superiority in numbers and equipment. In action to break the enemy´s defence to the west of the town of Lebus, on the Oder, 10-22.4.1945, Comrade Sasayev showed initiative and courage. At a critical moment in a difficult military situation, after the Rifle Company Commander had been wounded, he took command of the Rifle Company and completed the task of the elimination of the encircled enemy, by inflicting serious losses in personnel and equipment. His initiative and courage facilitated the accomplishment of this military task of eliminating the encircled enemy group. In action, he is a brave and determined, enterprising and energetic sub-unit commander, and he takes constant care of his subordinates´ daily lives.´ Lieutenant Georgy Yakovlevich Sasayev, born Saratov, Russia, 25.8.1924; Commissioned Junior Lieutenant, 5.3.1943; served on the Ukrainian Front as Rifle Platoon Commander, 15.8.1943-23.7.1944; twice heavily wounded, 22.9.1943 (shoulder), and 22.2.1944 (jaw); served on the Belorussian Front from 24.7.1944; Lieutenant, 29.11.1944; lightly wounded in the chest, January 1945; Submachine Gunners Platoon Commander, 1.8.1945; transferred to the Reserve, 11.1.1947. Lieutenant Sasayev was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class, 9.2.1945; and the Order of the Red Star, 7.11.1944.
