x CANADA The Large Queen Issue Six Cents Blackish Brown/Yellowish Brown Ottawa Printings, Perforated 12 Covers 1871 (20 Jan.) envelope from Halifax "Via S.S. Abyssinia" (a Cunard liner) to England, bearing 6c. brown Plate 2 cancelled with "H" duplex and showing a partially light example of the "halifax n.s/ship letter" boxed d.s. and tombstone "paid/liverpool/ship" d.s. (29.1) in red, additionally tying the adhesive, Rugby arrival c.d.s. (30.1) on reverse. A rare and attractive example of "Special Mail" to the U.K. Photo Estimate £ 600-800 Note: Occasionally official use was made of non-mail sailings for the transmission of "Special Mails" to the U.K. All appear to emanate from Halifax or St. John.
