A Great War 1917 ´Druid Farm´ Casualty Group of Three to Corporal A.O. Pritchett, Worcestershire Regiment 1914-15 Star (16990 Pte. A.O. Pritchett. Worc: R.); British War and Victory Medals (16990 A. Cpl. A.O. Pritchett. Worc. R.), extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 100-120 16990 Corporal Albert Oscar Pritchett, born Bristol, 6.1.1893; enlisted in the 10th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, on the outbreak of War, and served as a machine-gunner in France. In July 1917 the Regiment was in the front line east of Oosttaverne, in the Ypres Sector. On the night of the 6th-7th July they were ordered to attack the enemy trench system near Druid Farm. The action commenced at 11 p.m., and almost immediately they were greeted by heavy fire from machine guns and a hail of bombs thrown by the defending Germans. The attack failed due to the amount of enemy fire, the Worcesters having suffered 50 casualties killed and wounded, including Corporal Pritchett. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
