A Great War 1915 ´Loos Offensive´ Group of Three to Private E.J. Maisey, Gloucestershire Regiment 1914-15 Star (11988 Pte. E.J. Maisey. Glouc: R.); British War and Victory Medals (11988 Pte. E.J. Maisey. Glouc. R.), nearly extremely fine, with photographic image of recipient (3) Estimate £ 100-120 11988 Private Edmund John Maisey, born Leckhampton, ´enlisted in the 10th (Service) Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment in Cheltenham in September 1914. Drafted to France on the 9th August 1915 he was serving with his regiment in France at the time of the Loos offensive and on the morning of the 13th October preparations were made for an attack on the German front line just west of the Lens-La Basee Road. After a preliminary bombardment and gas attack, two companies went over the top punctually at 2pm. The battalion failed to reach its objective owing to heavy rifle and machine gun fire and was compelled to fall back on its original line for the loss of over 150 officers and men. Private Maisey was one of those killed. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.´ (leaving All That Was Dear, refers).
