Gerrard, R.F.R.), good very fine, mounted as originally worn (8) Estimate £ 180-220 Father and Son Groups. 3494 Private Frank Gerrard served during the Great War with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment in the French Theatre of War from, 18.8.1915. M.I.D. London Gazette 11.9.1945 Leading Seaman Frank Gerrard, D/J.110403 (Marlpool, Nottinghamshire), ´For distinguished service in H.M. Ships Hesperus and Havelock in the destruction of a U-boat on the 30th April, 1945, and the probable destruction of another on the 8th May, 1945, both in the North Sea.´ The Recommendation, dated 4.5.1945, gives Gerrard as being initially recommended for a gallantry decoration and then downgraded to a M.I.D. for his ´Leadership and hard work in taking charge of his supply party as a result of which there were no failures or delays in firing patterns´ in H.M.S. Hesperus during the sinking of the U-boat in the Irish Sea, 30.4.1945.
