Buchan, 20 St. James Street, Aberdeen´ and enclosure slip (lot) Estimate £ 110-130 John Buchan was the father of John Watson Buchan. 4580 DA Deck Hand John Buchan served during the Great War in H.M. Trawler Briton, a vessel out of Aberdeen that was employed for minesweeping duties from February 1915, she hit a mine off the Longsands, 21.7.1915, with only three members of the crew surviving, Buchan being killed in action with the others, he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. The roll gives his medals as being issued to "son" (J.W. Buchan), as his wife had predeceased him.
