Pair: Brigade Surgeon O. Owen, Army Medical Service, Attached 50th Queen´s Own Regiment and Royal Artillery New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1865-66 (Assist. Surgn. O. Owen, 50th Qn.´s Own Regt.); Afghanistan 1878-80, one clasp, Ali Musjid (Sur: Maj: O. Owen. 11/9th R.A.), nearly extremely fine, extremely rare (2) Estimate £ 700-800 Brigade Surgeon Owen Owen, born Coleshill, Warwickshire, 1837; appointed as Assistant Surgeon Army Medical Service, 1860, and was posted to the 50th Regiment, later that same year; after three years service attached to the Regiment he returned to take up a Staff post before being attached to the 50th again for service in the field in New Zealand, 1865; advanced Surgeon Major 1875 and served in the Afghanistan War 1878-80 attached to 11/9th Royal Artillery, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid; retired with the Honorary rank of Brigade Surgeon, 1885. Owen´s New Zealand Medal is one of approximately 3 awards with reverse dated ´1865-66´ to the Regiment.
