Sudan The Campaign for the Recapture of Khartoum 1898 (26 Apr.) envelope (250x125mm.) registered Sheffield, bearing Large Camel 2m., 3m., 5m. (3) and 1pi. tied by "berber" c.d.s., showing Egypt registration h.s., London transit d.s. and, on reverse, Halfa, Alexandria and arrival d.s.; the envelope with some faults including water staining. Photo Estimate £ 500-600Note: The majority of "Wet through Collision on the Nile" covers show transit marks of Halfa 27th April and Alexandria 8th May 1898 and are all ordinary mail. This registered cover, originating at Berber on 26th April, shows the Halfa transit d.s. of 27th April and an Alexandria d.s. on 7th May. The extensive water staining suggests it was involved in the same collision incident but probably protected in a separate sealed bag for registered mail and, as a result, arrived in Alexandria a day earlier than ordinary mail. The supposition that it was in a separate bag may account for the fact that it did not receive the "Wet" cachet.
