Lot: 213

x Great Britain Postal History Ireland 1851 (8 Oct.) entire from Portadown to Lurgan, bearing 1841 1d. plate 94, PL, margins virtually all round, tied by very fine strike of the "375" (Portadown) numeral in black and a superb strike of the "316" (Lurgan) numeral in blue - the reverse with corresponding despatch and arrival datestamps in the same colours; the adhesive with trace of paper bend or wrinkle though in no way affecting the wonderful appearance. Note: The reason for the application of the two different numerals is unclear, though it may have been because the "375" (despatch) was too light or had not sufficiently obliterated the adhesive. Rare and most unusual. R.P.S. Certificate (1986). Photo Estimate £ 400-500
