xTogo Anglo-French Occupation Issues 1914 (Oct.) Overprinted "TOGO/Anglo-French/Occupation" at the Catholic Mission, Lomé Narrow Setting with lines of overprint 2mm. apart 20pf. ultramarine, variety 2mm. spacing se-tenant with 3mm. spacing in a vertical pair and contained in a vertical strip of three, the upper two stamps from Setting 1 [38-48], the lower stamp from Setting 2 [8], fresh colour and perfectly centred, unused without gum. Extremely fine and one of the greatest rarities of Togo philately. Holcombe (1990) and B.P.A. (1997) Certificates. Sc. 51b; S.G. H17b, £6,500+. Photo Estimate £ 4,000-5,000 Note: This rare variety was caused by the fact that the sheet of one hundred was folded in half to receive the forme of Setting1. When it was discovered that the other half of the sheet had not been overprinted, the setting had already been altered. Subsequently the upper half of the sheet which had been folded under received the overprint of Setting 2. This resulted in ten pairs across the sheet with the overprints se-tenant The above strip of three emanates from a marginal block of twelve (4x3) from the Bute collection (lot 405), which formed the 7th. to 10th. vertical rows of the sheet provenance: Marquess of Bute, 1959
