Four: Flight Sergeant J.T. Jopling, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; Africa Star; 1939-45 War Medal, all mint state, in box of issue addressed to J.T. Jopling, New Eltham, London, with full size and miniature ribands, named contents slip, and named condolence enclosure (4) Estimate £ 180-220128915 Flight Sergeant John Thomas Jopling, R.A.F.V.R., son of John Thomas and Frances Jopling of New Eltham, London, flew with 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron, R.A.F. Taking off from Dunholm Lodge near Scampton at 22.01 on the night of 18.8.1943, his aircraft, Lancaster JA897 KM-H, was lost over the target area Peenemünde. One of the crew survived and was taken prisoner of war. One body was recovered and is buried in Berlin 1939-45 War Cemetery. The other five members of the crew, including Jopling, are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
