A Great War ´French Theatre´ M.C. Group of Four to Second Lieutenant M.H.A. Madge, Machine Gun Corps, late Middlesex Regiment Military Cross, G.V.R., rev. inscribed 62 Bn. M.G.C. .M.H.A.M. July 1918; British War and Victory Medals (2. Lieut. M.H.A. Madge.); Territorial Force War Medal (1326 Pte. M.H.A. Madge. Middx R.), nearly extremely fine, mounted in Spink display case, together with facsimile citation. (4) Estimate £ 700-800M.C. London Gazette 5.11.1918 ´For Conspicuous gallantry and skill. The able manner in which he handled his section of machine guns enabled him to silence many of the enemy´s machine guns, and he contributed greatly to the success of the operation. His example of coolness and complete disregard of danger did much to encourage the men under his command.´
Second Lieutenant Morris Hubert Acland Madge, M.C., born 1894, King´s Nymphon, Devon, educated Barnstaple Grammar School and St. Mark´s College, Chelsea; enlisted 10th Middlesex Regiment as Private, 21.10.1912, served in India 1914-1917; commissioned into the Machine Gun Corps, Second Lieutenant 27.2.1918, entered the French Theatre of War 2.3.1918; released 19.1.1919.
