An Officer´s Plaid Brooch of the 74th Highlanders A fine silver quoit (HM 1865), 3 7/8 in. diameter, mounted with glass or quartz central ornament, and engraved with a thistle wreath, ASSAYE, SERINGAPATAM, eleven Peninsular War battle-honours and LXXIV, the reverse faintly scratched with initials JAH See illustration Estimate £ 350-450The initials appear to be those of James Archibald Hay, who was commissioned into the 74th Highlanders 1867, promoted Lieutenant 1870, Captain 1877, and Major (in the HLI) 1887.
