Military General Service 1793-1814, one clasp, Fort Detroit (J. Brownridge, Serjt, 41st Foot.), edge bruise, otherwise nearly extremely fine, scarce Estimate £ 7,000-8,000 Provenance Dr James Muirhead Collection, Glendining, 11.10.1950 Sergeant John Brownridge, born in the Parish of Sowerby, Cumberland, attested for service in the 41 Regiment at Ipswich, Suffolk, 14.4.1809, aged 19 years; Corporal 9.9.1815; Sergeant 25.12.1815; discharged 22.1.1830 as a result of hepatitis contracted in India. His record of service states ´Three months at the taking of Walcheren. Five years in America and served during the whole of that war. Was at the Capture of Detroit, at the battles of Queenston and Miami, also at the action of Lundy´s Lane in 1814 and volunteered for the Forlorn Hope at the assault of Fort Eire the same year.´
