Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Copenhagen (William Edwards, Midshipman), nearly extremely fine, with tool for plotting ship´s course Estimate £ 3,500-4,000William Edwards served as Midshipman in H.M.S. Defiance during the battle of Copenhagen. Commander William Edwards (1781-1859), entered the Navy 1796 as Ordinary Seaman in H.M.S. Atlas; served in the Channel and rose to Midshipman; served in H.M.S. Defiance during Lord Keith´s capture of three frigates and two brigs, 19.06.1799, and in the same ship at the battle of Copenhagen 2.04.1801; Lieutenant 1806; commanded a party of seamen from H.M.S. Agamemnon at the siege of Copenhagen September 1807; saw service off the coast of Brazil and in the Downs, and transferred to the Impress service at Waterford 1813; commanded the Revenue-cutter Lynx 1818; retired on half-pay 1821, and assumed the rank of Commander 1840.
