BURMA World War II Postal History 1943-44 collection of items relating to Trooper W. Vann, a member of the 45th. Reconnaisance Regt. which was posted to India and became part of the Second Chindit Expedition, comprising airgraphs (6), the first (complete with envelope) in September 1943 during training in Assam, the second an Official type to Mrs. Vann advising that she will not be hearing from her husband as "the type of operations in which he is taking part makes it impossible for him to write to you", the third complete with 1944 envelope, the fourth a 1944 Christmas type, the fifth written on New Year's eve 1944 and the sixth a 1945 Christmas Greetings type complete with envelope, and 1944 Green Envelope written by Vann whilst on convalesence in India, and five further airgraphs, two from other members of the Chindits. The collection is complimented by a series of forty small photographs taken by Vann on a VPK camera during the campaign which give an interesting insight into life with the Chindits, together with various other items relative to the airgraph service.
