Pilgrem´ (sic) (i) The Army Rifle Association, Whitehead Cup, a similar medal in bronze (j) Regimental Rifle Meetings, silver medals (2), both H Company Team Winners (Hallmarks for Birmingham 1900 and 1904) (12) Estimate £ 500-550 Regimental Sergeant Major John Pilgrim, enlisted in the Essex Regiment, 1893 and served with the 1st Battalion throughout the South African War (Mentioned in Lord Roberts´ Despatches 4.9.1901); advanced to Sergeant Major, 1912; accompanied the 1st Battalion of his regiment to the Balkans 25.4.1915 and rose to Regimental Sergeant Major (Al Valore as R.S.M. 12.9.1918); he retired in February 1920 after serving 26 years with the Colours, and died 22.2.1955 aged 83 years.
