Lawrie. 1/Essex Rgt.); Coronation 1902, extremely fine (2) Estimate £ 380-420 Major John Charles Lawrie, listed as Captain 2nd Volunteer Battalion, 8.2.1899; served in South Africa with the 1st Battalion Essex Regiment, Commanding Volunteer Special Service Company from 21.4.1900; transferred to 3rd Battalion, 1904; appointed Inspector of Musketry 1907 and Honorary Major that year; on mobilisation of the 3rd Battalion for the Great War, August 1914, Major Lawrie was detached to the Royal Fusiliers where he remained until his death, 7.5.1915 aged 56 years.
