Auction: 4029 - Great Britain Stamps & Postal History
Lot: 563
1841 1d., unplated, JB, margins all round (enormous at places), on entire (side flaps missing) from Westray to Kirkwall dated 18 May 1853, tied by fine light strike of the black Maltese Cross (applied by the postmaster at Westray, contrary to the new instruction – presumably because no numeral type was available to him, even after nine years!) and then correctly cancelled on arrival by light “207” Kirkwall numeral; lightly soiled fold clear of the adhesive. Rare and most attractive. Photo
