Henry I, Penny, 1.36g., type XI, Cambridge, uncertain moneyer, large artistic crowned bust left, wearing flowing robe and holding sceptre, two quatrefoils in field, henr[..], rev. double inscription between three beaded circles, around cross pattée, the outer inscription divided by four quatrefoils in circles, [.]v[…]n on granebric: (BMC -; N.867; S.1272), small official edge snick, lightly crimped, almost very fine, with an excellent mint signature, unique and unrecorded, a new type for this extremely rare mint under Henry I Estimate £ 1,500-2,000 The Cambridge mint is hitherto known from only five coins, of three types, for the entire reign of Henry I. Type V (2 - SCMB April 1978 p.104 (Frise); and SCMB October 1984 p.252 (Frise - cut halfpenny die-duplicate of the last)); type VI (a cut halfpenny, on loan to the Fitzwilliam Museum from the D Rogers collection); and type XIII (2 - Fitzwilliam Museum, ex Conte (Algar Fresa); and Fitzwilliam Museum, found near Fulborn, Cambs. (Algar Fresa, an obv. die duplicate of the last).
