Henry VII (1485-1509), class I, Angel, 5.05g., St. Michael standing slaying the dragon, henric di gra rex angl z franc , rev., old style ship bearing shield and cross, h (over R) and rose at sides, per crvsem tvam salva nos xpc rede, saltire and double saltire stops, m.m. sun and rose (Potter & Winstanley type I, 4 (sun & rose dies 1/ 4), Schneider 500/501 (same obv./rev. dies); N.1694; S.2179/80), struck to full weight on a small flan, edge scrape at 11 o'clock, otherwise very fine, extremely rare with h over R on reverse Estimate £ 1,250-1,500 provenance: Spink Numismatic Circular, November 1942, no.16773 £16-10-0 Two Henry VII Angel reverse dies of class I, m.m. sun and rose, have an h struck over R beside the mast, Potter and Winstanley p.141. Both have sun and rose 3, with the four-rayed sun, which is found on late Richard III groats but is not known on his Angels. It is possible that these dies were prepared but not put into use prior to Richard's death.
