“Guadeloupe”, Black Dogg, a 1789 Cayenne 2 Sous (probably a brass forgery of the day), countermarked with a large G in a circular dentilated indent (15 dentilations), somewhat similar to the gold Joes (see Gordon 217) but with a reverse impression incuse, probably a modern forgery; with a Spanish-American 2 Reales of Charles IV, pierced for suspension, countermarked with RF in oblong, often ascribed to Guadeloupe but without known grounds for doing so, the first very fine, the second fair, the countermark fine (2) Estimate £ 20-30 This RF countermark also occurs on copper coins, which appear to have circulated for a long time after the countermark was applied.
