Lot: 475

Guadeloupe, Gourdaine, Moco or 45 Sous, 3.58g., a contemporary light weight forgery in imitation of the official coins sanctioned by the 1811 Act, an amusing coin as the two countermarks are possibly from different punches (Pr. 15 var. (which is a contemporary forgery, not a concoction)) very fine Estimate £ 30-50 The 2 different countermarks may perhaps be explained by the coin being cut from a 9 Livres, already stamped with 2 forged punches, although neither is in the normal position (on the king´s breast). These coins were rejected as concoctions by Pridmore, but the act was published by Lyall in “West Indian Coinage, New Discoveries”.
