Tortola & St Vincent, cut “half” of a 1773 or 1775 Spanish-American 8 Reales, 10.65 g., countermarked on obverse with the St Vincent SV punch (1797) three times, partially obliterated by a tortola type 1b broken punch (1801) on the reverse; also traces of a letter “T” scratched on the opposite side to the Tortola punch, similar to scratches known on other Tortola cut coins, the coin cut horizontally (Pr.-), host coin fair, countermarks fine and a very rare coin Estimate £ 400-450 This coin would have been just within the 1797 weight standard for St Vincent (168 grains = 10.89 grams) when countermarked. Official St Vincent cut half Dollars do exist that weigh around 144 grains, but these must have been carried out as a later amendment to the 1797 act.
