Rockefeller, John D. (1839-1937). American industrialist and financier; founded Standard Oil and made it the nation's largest oil producer, buying out most of his rivals; the company was broken up as a monopoly and he retired, dedicating the last 40 year of his life to philanthropy. Document Signed "John D. Rockefeller" as company president. Standard Oil Company Certificate, No. 267, dated February 4, 1881, issuing 192 shares to W. G Warden. Vignettes of the U.S Capitol and semi-nude "Standard Bearer" with sword and flag. Rockefeller signs boldly lower right, while H.M. Flagler signs lower left as company secretary left. Very Fine. Matted with an image of Rockefeller and attractively framed, 30 x 19".
