Custer, George Armstrong. U.S. army officer and cavalry commander in the Civil War and the Indian Wars; killed with all his men at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. Group of Period Photographs and images kept by his wife Elizabeth "Libbie" Bacon Custer. Cabinet card, 2 ¾ x 4", of Custer in uniform, his future wife Elizabeth "Libbie" Bacon and uncertain woman, by Brady, Washington [D.C.], penciled on back "1861 A E Cara Beane NY"; Cabinet card, 2 ¾ x 4", of Custer in uniform by Brady, Washington DC and NY; ca. 1871-1872 cabinet card, 4 1/3 x 6 ½", of Custer wearing a suit and tie with overcoat, by Scholten, St. Louis; sepia photo, 8 ¼ x 5 ¾" of U.S cavalry officers (apparently from Custer's command) and their wives on the steps of a Great Plains house - Capt. Smith, Col. Keogh, others, "Long Soldier (Indian)" standing by column. Their names in ink on back, later penciled "-Lincoln 1875", on board, mount marks bottom corner;
1920's reprint of 3 ½ x 4 1/2" photo of Custer posing by grizzly bear he has killed at Bloody Knife, Indian scout, Private Noonan and Captain Ludlow behind him, inked description in borders and on back, ink stamp of the "Miller Studio, Pierre S.D. July 14, 1927"; mid to late 1860's lithograph by C.O. Buckingham, Washington, D.C., 6 ¾ x 4 ½" of General Sheridan and Cavalry Generals at Dinwiddie Court House, VA prior to the move on Five Forks March 31st, 1865, Custer in the foreground. "Negro field hand describing topography of the country. Court House, Slave Auction Block and Confederate Prisoners in background.", on board (bottom board corners broken); B&W postcard of Custer in uniform - "June 25, 1921 Forty-Fifth Anniversary of Custer's Last Fight Hardin, Montana" printed on back; and early 20th Century photo reproduction of a painting of Custer standing, arms folded, between two rifles and below a saber, ink inscription on back "Mr. L L Curlin Oneata [sic] NY Manh 1908".
