Ercole I d'Este (1431-1505), second Duke of Ferrara 1471. Medal, Ferrara ca. 1471-3. Bronze, 94mm. DIVVS.HERCVLES.FERRARIAE.AC.MVTINAE.DVX.SECVNDVS.INVICTISSIMVS, Bust left wearing a tall cap with flat fluted crown and edges turned up, a robe and chain with a jeweled pendant, rev. Palm tree atop a rocky hill, flanked by two small leafless trees, signed around: OPVS.SPERANDEI. Hill 364. Possibly cast after the 97mm lead specimen in Modena (illustrated in Hill's Corpus).
