Alessandro de' Medici (ca. 1512-1537), First Duke of Florence 1532. Medal, dated 1534. Bronze, 44mm. ALEXANDER.MED.DVX.FLORENTIAE.I, Draped, youthful, bare-headed bust right, rev. Peace seated right, holding a cornucopia, sets a torch to a pile of arms. Armand I, 151, 4; Kress 317, Bargello II, 340. Del Prato was a goldsmith, and according to Vasari (Milanesi VII pp 43-44), made armor, small sculptures and medals for Duke Alessandro. Pierced. A Good Very Fine contemporary cast.
