Leonello d'Este (1407-1450), Marquis of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio Emilia 1444. Medal, Ferrara 1444. Bronze, 99mm. Bust left in embroidered tunic, rev. On a rocky crag, a lion standing right regards a scroll of music shown to him by a cupid, square behind - the musical lion a pun on the ruler's name: Leonello ("little lion"). cf. Hill 32.
