Collins Wireless Telephone Company (District of Columbia) 1909. 10 shares. Issued, not cancelled. No.9283. Green. Telegraph equipment. Ferry boat. Gold seal. EF. An exceptionally nice example of this issue. While A. Frederick Collins may have been a legitimate pioneer in the field of wireless telephones, the company he organized included other associates who were more interested in selling stock to willing investors than they were in building a successful company. Wild claims were made about telegraph stocks losing all of their value while Collins stock soared to record heights. Collins eventually landed in jail. He later wrote "The Radio Amateur's Handbook," which remained in print for over 80 editions, and that casts some doubt as to whether or not he was a crook, or the victim of shady associates.
