Cooke, Jay (1821-1905). Helped finance the Union in the War Between the States. Afterwards, Cooke financed the construction of the Northern Pacific Railway. The Panic of 1873 led to his bankruptcy. ALS. 8vo. July 16, 1858. To Mr. Hale. A brief note from Mr. Thomas, on the back of an advertising hand out, is affixed to the upper left corner of the letter.
"I have just rec'd the enclosed from Mr. Thomas - Don't do anything about this matter till I see Mr. Thomas - I supposed he had assented but it seems not exactly…" Signed "J. C."
