Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth (1807-1882). Widely popular American poet and educator. ALS, 3 pages, 8vo. Cambridge. June 30, 1875. From the content of the letter, written to Samuel Adams Drake, author of Nooks and Corners of the New England Coast. "I have had the pleasure of receiving your beautiful volume, Nooks and Corners of the New England Coast and hasten to thank you for it. Tomorrow I leave for a week or two in Maine, and shall take the book with me to read and enjoy at leisure. I am sure it cannot fail to be very interesting. Meanwhile accept my cordial thanks and my best wishes for its success in every way. Yours faithfully Henry W. Longfellow."Longfellow was Professor of Modern Language at Harvard. Among his epic poems are "Evangeline", "By the Seaside and the Fireside". He also wrote "The Wreck of the Hesperus", "Hiawatha", "The Village Blacksmith", and he was the first American to translate Dante's Divine Comedy.
