Lawrence, D.H. (1885-1930) English novelist, playwright, poet, essayist, critic and painter. Author of "Lady Chatterley's Lover". Sentiment, in his hand, on a 6" x 8" page imprinted with the title of his 1923 book of poems Birds, Beasts and Flowers. April 1925. To Mrs. Zelia Nuttall."…from D. H. Lawrence remembering the pleasant hours of the Casa Alvarado." Also included is a photograph mounted on a cardboard frame, signed on the verso twice, "D. H. L." and "[D.] H. Lawrence." This remarkably young image of Lawrence is inscribed to his childhood neighbors - "Dear little Mabel & Lovely Emmie." In addition, there is a small watercolor landscape, 5" x 3 ¼," unsigned, but believed to be by Lawrence.
