Arnold, Thomas (1795-1842). Arnold was headmaster (1828-1841) of Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, one of the oldest public schools in England. ALS, 1 page. 4to. Laleham. 12 Russell Square, London. December 29, 1826. To W. Tooke Esq. Dr. Arnold introduced the policy of using prefects (older students) to enforce discipline among the younger students. Arnold cannot meet Tooke in town, but invites him to stay with him. A light pencil notation is at the top of the letter, and there are some mounting remnants on the verso. A piece is missing from a blank back panel, otherwise very fine. The "T. Arnold" signature is quite bold.
